We should all know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value, no matter what the color.

:: fiber art that gives
love to our world ::

Hi, I’m Joey.

The storyteller, photographer + fiber artist behind Threads With Purpose. I’ve always had a love for the textile arts. When my friends were having their lemonade stands, I was busy selling friendship bracelets and hair wraps for 25¢. It was my introduction into being a small business owner. When I travel, I gravitate towards the textiles —the blankets, the handmade throw pillows and bags, the tapestries— that often tell a story of the culture and the artisans who made them. I once bought yards of fabric woven on a floor loom in Ethiopia with the intention of making a duvet cover … someday. Ask me how that project is going 😉 ( ::hint:: it’s been 4+ years + haven’t even started it yet because the fabric is just too beautiful! )

Nature is my biggest source of inspiration, so I enjoy exploring anywhere outdoors with my camera — and soon my kitties. (follow along on the ‘gram to see how leash training is going)

IT ALL BEGAN AS A FUNDRAISER.

In 2018, I was heading to Ethiopia as a volunteer humanitarian filmmaker for the second time in two years. To afford to go, I wanted to creatively “earn” my friends’ + family’s support so I taught myself how to macramé. In six short months, I sold enough plant hangers + wall hangings to cover my airfare! And the overwhelming love for those macramés encouraged me to keep going. While in Ethiopia, I met incredible textile weavers who showed me just enough of the basics to be intrigued to learn another fiber art form.

SO IT CONTINUES AS THREADS WITH PURPOSE.

I believe that we are #knotjustthreads but an interwoven tapestry and when we come together, beautiful things can happen. No one thread is of greater value. And no two threads are the same. With every sale, I invite you to choose a project you would like to support. My hope is that it would connect you to some incredible work that is being done around the world.
